⁵ Why should you be beaten^(A) anymore?
    Why do you persist^(B) in rebellion?^(C)
Your whole head is injured,
    your whole heart^(D) afflicted.^(E)

⁶ From the sole of your foot to the top of your head^(A)
    there is no soundness^(B)—
only wounds and welts^(C)
    and open sores,
not cleansed or bandaged^(D)
    or soothed with olive oil.^(E)

¹³ “When Ephraim^(A) saw his sickness,
    and Judah his sores,
then Ephraim turned to Assyria,^(B)
    and sent to the great king for help.^(C)
But he is not able to cure^(D) you,
    not able to heal your sores.^(E)
